Musical Futures
CapeUK plays a lead role in the Paul Hamlyn Foundation's Musical Futures project which is seeking to devise (in partnership with Youth Music and the DfES Innovation Unit) new and imaginative ways of engaging young people in music activities. The Foundation commissioned a number of action research ‘pathfinder' projects (led by music services in Leeds, Nottingham and Hertfordshire) to understand the factors affecting young people's commitment to, and sustained engagement in, music and to identify viable, sustainable models which can support a national strategy for music.CapeUK, in partnership with Artforms, Education Leeds, is studying ways of supporting learning outside the classroom and promoting progression in the non-formal sector. This includes integrating online technologies and a wide range of projects and music provision.
Musical Futures seeks to understand the diverse musical needs of young people and how they can be met, and how their experience of music-making can be enhanced. It also facilitates support for music trainees, leaders, teachers, performers and composers through the provision of development opportunities which highlight collaborative working practices.
