EQUAL

The EQUAL programme is a national initiative funded through European Social Funding. It aims to overcome the inequalities faced by people working, or wishing to work in the cultural sector through a range of initiatives, including improving access to a programme of Continuing Professional Development (CPD).

The programme enabled CapeUK to conduct regional research into barriers faced by black and minority ethnic creative practitioners working in the cultural sector and education. In addition a range of CPD programmes were developed for creative practitioners in Manchester and Leeds.

Under the umbrella of EQUAL, ‘Recipes for Success' has been developed as a two-part guide for creative practitioners working in the area of social inclusion with young people.

Part 1 explores the characteristics of the work, for example ‘creating and developing safe environments' and ‘putting young people at the centre' whilst Part 2 (to be published later in the year) will explore the practical elements of working in this area, for example joint planning, working with other organisations, safety and risk.
