Cultural Entitlement Research
CapeUK was commissioned by Arts Council, England - Yorkshire, Creative Partnerships, Yorkshire Museums, Libraries and Archives Council and the University of Leeds, to conduct research to ascertain the extent to which cultural and creative organisations in the Yorkshire region are equipped to contribute to an agenda of ‘cultural entitlement' in Yorkshire schools.CapeUK consulted directly with the creative and cultural sector in Yorkshire to examine and investigate the educational capacity and appetite of Creative Partnerships, the Arts Council's Regularly Funded Organisations, Museum Hubs and Creative Minds initiatives. The project classified and differentiated the purposes, nature and level of these organisations' activities within schools.
Importantly, the work also sought to define the terms ‘capacity' and ‘cultural entitlement', explored what they embrace, and discussed the implications of these terms in informing both further debate within the education sector and policy making by the research's sponsors in relation to capacity building for education and learning.
